Thanks to everyone who came out and ran, volunteered and supported the race.  We had a great turnout, great weather and a great course.  Hope you enjoyed it!  Check out the results above and let us know (ekharri@comcast.net) if you find any discrepancies or typos we should correct.

Photos! Photos are now posted at www.hovdephoto.com.  Thanks to Burke Hovde for taking those photos.  You can browse the pictures at the link above and purchase prints that you like.  There are about 2 or more pictures of most of the racers!

Finally, there was a couple of requests for additional hats.  If you are interested in purchasing a hat, let us know.  If there is enough of a demand, we will look into the cost of making another small order.

Course Description The course is a little bit short of  7 miles in length. The race begins and ends at the softball fields at the east end of the park (near the basketball court and covered areas), and will be run almost entirely on the horse trails above the lake. It is a very hilly course with the exciting potential for muddy and sloppy conditions.

Recap 2005 Race Article from Bellingham Herald
Note about Footwear This course will be hilly and will likely be muddy, so trail shoes or shoes with aggressive tread are highly recommended. Due to the rocky nature of the course in places, spikes would not be recommended.
Awards Awards will be given to the top ten male and female runners using age-graded scoring. These scores will be determined using WAVA age grading tables. For example, a 49 year old male who runs 60 minutes for 12k is the equivalent performance as an open (20-35 year old) male running 54:24. This runner would then place higher than 20-35 year old males running slower than 54:24.

Awards will include unique prizes, gift certificates, and/or merchandise courtesy of our sponsors.

There will also several door prize awards as well as special awards in a few surprise categories.
Aid Stations There will be one aid station with water located at roughly the halfway point of the race.
Directions to the race
  • From I-5 Northbound: Take the N. Lake Samish Exit 246 and turn left (north) at the stop sign. Drive approximately 2.5 miles to the East Lake Padden entrance. Turn left and follow the road to the playground area.
  • From I-5 Southbound: Take the Samish Way Exit 252 and turn left onto Samish Way at the light. Then turn right at the next light onto Samish Way. Follow the road for 2.4 miles until the East Lake Padden sign (it will be the second entry sign for Lake Padden). Turn right and follow the road to the playground area.
Post Race All awards will be given immediately at the conclusion of the race. There will also be several refreshments available afterwards. Please bring extra dry clothing if the weather is cold and/or wet, as the shelters will provide cover, but are not enclosed structures.
Restrictions Baby joggers and dogs are not allowed on the course.
